Childs Elementary

teacher giving a test to studentsStandardized Testing

Students at Childs participate in two different standardized testing programs, the state-mandated I-STEP+ Test and the district adopted NWEA test.

According to the Indiana Department of Education, "[i]n Indiana, all students in grades 3 through 10 take the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+). Based on Indiana’s Academic Standards, the test includes English/language arts at each grade, as well as science at grades 5 and 7."

I-STEP testing is scheduled for 3rd through 6th graders from September 17 - 28.

For more information about I-STEP, visit the LearnMoreIndiana website or the ISTEP+ InfoCenter.

NWEA is the district adopted computer-based assessment that is given to students twice a year, both in the fall and in the spring. These assessments provide additional information related to student progress in mathematics, language, and reading, which allows teachers to frame their instruction around the abilities and needs of individual students. Testing occurs by grade level on three consecutive days.

Spring NWEA testing is scheduled for 2nd through 6th graders from April 7-25 .

Visit the NWEA website for more information about NWEA testing.

Finally, to ensure your student performs to the best of his/her ability, please make sure your child gets to bed early and eats a nutritious breakfast and lunch during the time testing is occurring. Also, we'd ask that you extend every effort to ensure your student attends school on these days, so please try to avoid making daytime appointments for your child on these school days.
