Most of the answers to these questions are also in the Childs School Handbook
Attendance Questions
What are the school hours?
| Half-Day Kindergarten | 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. |
| Kindergarten Plus | 9:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. |
| Grades 1 - 6 | 9:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. |
Please don't arrive before 8:45 a.m. unless your child is in enrolled in before school care.
My child will be absent/late today. What should I do?
To report absences or if your child will be late, please call the school office (330-7756), not the teacher.
Please leave a message if you call before official school hours. Calling 330-7756, extensions 200 or 248 will connect you to the voice mailboxes of the secretaries in charge of attendance.
Illness and Medicine Questions
When should my child return to school after being sick?
Students who have been ill or have missed school due to illness should be fever-free for twenty-four hours before returning.
How should I send my child's medication to school?
The parent or guardian is responsible for delivering medications to and from the school health office. Do not send medications with your child. For more information, please read the policy for medication in school.
Bus Transportation Questions
Please go the MCCSC Bus Stop Information page with questions regarding:
- which bus your child will ride.
- where the bus stop is located.
- what are the pick-up/drop-off times.
Or you may call the Transportation Department directly (330-7719).
My child has to ride a different bus today. What should I do?
If children are to ride a different bus than usual, they must have a note giving your permission or the bus driver may refuse to admit them. This is intended to prevent children mistakenly riding the wrong bus. Also notify your child's teacher of the change in transportation routine so the teacher can remind the child.
My child did not arrive home as expected. What should I do?
If your child does not arrive at home as expected, call the school office (330-7756).
It is important that you have a transportation plan on file in the office in case of early dismissal for bad weather. This form is sent home at the beginning of each school year, but may be updated as necessary by visiting the office.
School Cancellation/Delay Due to Weather
How does a weather delay change the regular schedule?
If there is a 2-hour delay:
- before school care will open at 6:00 AM, as usual.
- buses will arrive two hours after their normal time.
- classes start at 11:00 AM.
- Kindergarten Plus begins at 11:00 AM.
- Half-Day Kindergarten is cancelled.
- lunch will be served as usual.
- school will be dismissed at 3:15 PM, as usual.
How can I find out if school has been cancelled today?
If you think school is closed or is operating on a delayed opening schedule, please check local media outlets for official closing/delay announcements.
What happens to before/after school care in case of a weather cancellation?
If school is cancelled due to weather, there will be no before or after school care.
Lunch Hours
It is imperative parents taking students to lunch adhere to their child's lunch schedule. Please do not take children out of class early and be sure to return on time.
| Grades | Lunch/Recess time |
|---|---|
| Kindergarten Plus | 11:15 a.m. -- 12:05 p.m. |
| Grades 1 & 2 | 11:25 a.m. -- 12:15 p.m. |
| Grades 3 & 4 | 11:50 a.m. -- 12:40 p.m. |
| Grades 5 & 6 | 12:20 p.m. -- 1:10 p.m. |
If you have more than one child with two different lunch schedules, please do not take one child out of class in order to go to lunch with a sibling. It is important for children to be in class.
After School Arrangements
Please make sure your child knows where to go after school before he or she arrives at school in the morning. Please try to avoid changing after-school plans for your child, to avoid classroom disruptions. Also, children are often confused when plans are changed. If a change is necessary, call the school office (330-7756) as soon as possible. It is very helpful to have changes reported before 1:00 PM. This gives the office staff time to get the message to your child, who may be involved in activities outside of his or her usual classroom.
New Parent Questions
