Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. In 1944, he went to college at Morehouse University at only fifteen! He graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology. King was praised by professors for his speech telling abilities. One of the people he admired most was Mohandas Gandhi. He decided that he wanted to preach God's word so he became a minister at his dad's church, Ebenzer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In1953 he married Coretta Scott, a music lover. Shortly thereafter, Dr. King accepted a job as a pastor in Montgomery, Alabama to be a pastor. Sadly in1956, Dr. King was put in prison and his house was bombed because of his attempts to stop segregation. But still, King was as strong a Negro leader as Gandhi was to the people of India.
Dr. King traveled all through out the country and spoke thousands of times. He spoke before John F. Kennedy in his famous " I Have a Dream" speech. He knew that being a great leader means that some people won't like you. However, King did not let this get to him.
"
Free at last, free at last,
thank God almighty I'm free at last!"

Unfortunately, Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968. It was believed by most that James Earl Ray pulled the trigger; but others think the murder was caused by other people. Ray recanted his guilty plea, but was never proved innocent.

Dr. King had a message in his "I have a Dream" speech. His message was that everyone should be treated with respect. No matter their abilities or weaknesses, their skin color or accent. Think of a cookie. If it's not divided equally, people may argue or fight. Dr. King was like the divider of the cookie. He wanted everyone to be equal and fair in every way. While Dr. Martin Luther King has been gone for forty years, he has always been counted as a peace maker. We can follow King's dream by treating everyone equal or the same.
