lockersUsing Lockers and the Y Drive

Lockers are a secure place to save your computer files. You should always save your files to your locker and NOT the C: drive. When software is updated, information on the hard drive of the computer you are using may be erased.

Some of the advantages to using lockers are:
1) they are secure
2) they can be accessed from any MCCSC computer, and
3) they are backed up for several days in the event you should lose a file.

Since lockers are secure, you CANNOT access your locker from the internet. You MUST be on a computer physically connected to the MCCSC network.

Your locker is named the Z: drive. When you use an MCCSC computer, you must enter your usual network ID information. You will automatically receive access to your personal locker.

Locker space is limited. Please refrain from storing excessively large files (over 4 MB) in your locker. Typically, these are video clips, animations, sound clips, or high resolution pictures. Store these larger files on CD-ROM instead.

When you are finished with the computer, be sure to logout so others cannot access your locker.

The Y: drive can be used to share files between other faculty and staff members, and even students.

Files placed in the Y:/Staff folder are only visible to faculty and staff. Students are locked out of this area. Within the Staff folder, each department has a private folder for exchanging files between members of a single department.

Files in the Y:/Bulletin Board folder can be seen by both students and staff. This can be helpful when distributing a file to students to use for a computer project. Students can not save or modify files placed in this area.

Files in the Y:/Open Share folder can be opened and modified by both students and staff. Use this for templates and other files that you want others to edit, complete, etc. and then save.
