Life Skills Curriculum
At Childs Elementary, all individuals follow the principles of Life Skills. These differ from regular school rules because they apply to all groups in all situations. They form the basis for agreement between teachers and students, and among the students, about social and academic behavior and expectations.
Our Life Skills curriculum focuses on the following behaviors:
- Organization
- Cooperation
- Responsibility
- Common Sense
- Respect
- Trust
- No Put Downs
- Active Listening
- Personal Best
During their sixth grade year, students participate in a series of Life Skills classes taught by a Bloomington police officer nicknamed Officer Friendly. Officer Friendly teaches students about the consequences of using alcohol and drugs, as well as strategies for staying healthy and safe. Students and parents celebrate the conclusion of this program with a Life Skills Culmination ceremony at the end of the year.
