Writing
Writing is an important part of everyday life. You can help your child become a better reader
and writer by sharing some of the following writing experiences.
- Encourage your child to keep a journal.
- Encourage your child to write "thank you" notes for gifts.
- Have your child write a book of definitins such as "imagination is...", "happiness is...",
complete with illustrations.
- Have your child rewrite familiar stories with amusing word changes.
- Keep a nature notebook. Use this to record observations made on walks, etc.
- have your child record special events with pictures. Arrange these pictures in albums and have
your child write captions.
- Have your child help write the grocery list.
- Encourage your child to write for information packets, free samples, giveaways, travel brochures,
contests, etc. As a child, I wrote to each of the fifty states asking for information. It was fun
to receive so much mail and I learned quite a bit about the United States in the process.
