Writing

Writing is an important part of everyday life. You can help your child become a better reader and writer by sharing some of the following writing experiences.

  1. Encourage your child to keep a journal.
  2. Encourage your child to write "thank you" notes for gifts.
  3. Have your child write a book of definitins such as "imagination is...", "happiness is...", complete with illustrations.
  4. Have your child rewrite familiar stories with amusing word changes.
  5. Keep a nature notebook. Use this to record observations made on walks, etc.
  6. have your child record special events with pictures. Arrange these pictures in albums and have your child write captions.
  7. Have your child help write the grocery list.
  8. Encourage your child to write for information packets, free samples, giveaways, travel brochures, contests, etc. As a child, I wrote to each of the fifty states asking for information. It was fun to receive so much mail and I learned quite a bit about the United States in the process.
