Helping Hands (Citizenship)
Respect and responsibility are necessary for us to live and work together.
During this unit we will talk about teamwork, safety, keeping healthy, the
lifeskills and lifelong guidelines.
Handicapable Kids (Uniqueness)
We are similar and we are different. We learn from each other in many ways.
We will talk about our growth and development, our brain and how we learn.
Getting Our Hands Dirty (Basic Needs)
Plants have basic needs and we need plants for our survival. During this
unit we will talk about plant parts and the conditions needed for plant growth,
including weather and soil. We will focus on pumpkins and corn.
Hand Me Downs (Diversity)
All people have the same basic needs no matter when or where they have lived,
but these needs may be met in different ways. We will look at "pilgrims" both
past and present, explore family stories shared between generations, look at
various cultures and explore quilts.
Paws For Kindness (Survival)
In order to survive, animals must meet their basic needs of food, water,
shelter and space by adapting to their habitat. During this unit we will
look at various animal classifications and their habitats. Our units of
study will include mammals (bats), birds (eagles), fish (goldfish),
amphibians (salamanders), reptiles (snakes), arthropods (spiders and ladybugs),
mollusks (snails), and annelids (earthworms).
Handle With Care (Interdependence)
We are all responsible for caring for the earth and each other.
This unit is the culmination of the year-long theme. During this
unit we will learn about the environment, natural resources, sources
of pollution, and conservation. We will also review ways that we can
show concern, respect each other, behave responsibly in a group and
resolve differences peacefully.
