Students in the lower grade levels learned how to identify trees by their leaves. The leaves chosen were from the playground area of the school (which is the subject matter for the mural: its weather, flora and fauna, activities, and effects of day and night on perception of the space. Leaves were traced, cut, detailed with crayon or marker, and glued onto a background. Science and environmental influences were part of the lesson. These examples will help the upper grades develop their designs for the models used in the aluminum pour mural.
