Grade 6 - Ceramic Boxes

grade6ceramicboxes27.jpg

Ceramic boxes are first designed on paper. Each box must have a top, bottom, side(s), and lid. The handle is optional. Students may do a simple piece or create one from an animal or more complex image. After patterns are made, the boxes are either sculpted or constructed. Students need to know the process of scoring the clay and adding slip to connect pieces. After the work is fired, they are painted with tempera paint.
